Motocross Rider Joel Evans Dies After ProMX Championship Crash in South Australia

The Australian motocross community is grieving the tragic death of Joel Evans, who passed away following a crash during Sunday’s ProMX Championship event at Gillman Speedway, South Australia.
The 30-year-old was involved in a single-bike accident during the premier MX1 race. Motorcycling Australia (MA) quickly called off the event to ensure all medical supplies were focused on helping Evans. MA said on Monday, despite fast emergency reaction and hospital treatment, Evans had regrettably passed away on Sunday night.

Joel’s sister, Renae, shared a heartbreaking message honoring her brother’s memory.
“What do you say when you have no words? Yesterday our lives changed forever,” she wrote.
“Eight hours after feeling a deep call for presence, I received the phone call no one wants to get. My little brother took his final breath.”
Renae described Joel as being in one of the happiest stages of his life, doing what he loved most — racing.
She added, “The best brother a girl could ask for and an even greater uncle for my girls. Ride In Peace #81. We love you so much, buddy.”
She also urged others to cherish every moment with loved ones, reminding, “Tomorrow isn’t promised for any of us.”
A Career Marked by Resilience
Joel Evans was widely respected in the motocross world, not only for his skill but also for his incredible resilience. He survived a major collision in 2015, going into an induced coma and perhaps facing paralysis. Inspired many, he remarkably healed, relearned how to walk, and went back to racing within a year.
He competed both nationally and internationally, including events across Asia, and was seen as a passionate ambassador for the sport.

“One minute you’re chatting at the start line, and the next, they’re gone. Joel was excited about racing in America and seemed so happy. Rest easy, brother.”
Nathan Crawford described Sunday as “an extremely heavy and confusing day,” sending love to Joel’s family.
Luke Clout expressed his condolences, saying, “The sport we love can be so cruel. Joel loved motocross more than most. You will be deeply missed.”
Brandon Steel added, “Still can’t believe it. My heart goes out to Joel’s family and friends. Ride on up there, mate.”
