Health Battles with Brain Arteriovenous Malformation

Lucy Markovic told her followers in March 2025 that she had been diagnosed with an arteriovenous malformation (AVM), an uncommon and possibly fatal illness with a tangle of aberrant blood vessels in the brain. She bravely recounted her path to public awareness, including updates on her upcoming operation and her complicated feelings—excitement, anxiety, thankfulness, and optimism.

Lucy Markovic had initially been scheduled for surgery on March 26; however, the procedure was later rescheduled to April 2.

On Thursday night, an update shared via her Instagram account revealed that the 27-year-old was “battling for her life.

In the early hours of Friday morning, her passing was announced through another Instagram story.

“It is with deep regret that I inform you Lucy has passed away,” in the post.

“She was at peace.

“Myself, her mother, and my mother were by her side.

“We kindly ask for privacy during this incredibly difficult time.”

Understanding Arteriovenous Malformation

A brain arteriovenous malformation is a congenital abnormality in which aberrant entanglement of veins and arteries disturbs normal blood flow and oxygen distribution. Some AVMs stay asymptomatic while others can cause major difficulties like seizures, eye problems, headaches, muscular weakness, and fatal brain haemorrhages.

Symptoms of Brain AVM

  • Severe headaches
  • Vision disruptions
  • Weakness of muscles
  • Speaking challenges

Risk Factors and Outcomes

About three in ten thousand persons are thought to have a brain AVM from birth. An untreated burst AVM can cause major neurological damage or death. Modern surgical operations, however, give optimism as many AVM patients have complete lives after therapy.

Tributes Pour In for a Shining Light

Grief from all throughout the fashion industry and beyond erupted at Lucy’s death. Declaring Markovic a “darling girl” whose talent will be lost, Donatella Versace voiced her grief and paid moving tributes to her memory.

Speaking for many, Elite Model Management said Lucy was a “shining light” who not only gave her work professionalism and beauty but also projected real warmth and optimism.

She gave her work grace, power, and beauty. More than that, though, she brought herself—her friendliness, her laughing, her brightness.” Superior Model Management

To show their respect and sympathies, thousands of friends, supporters, and fellow experts crowded to social media. Their honours presented a picture of a lady who was not only very gifted but also quite kind and inspirational.

Honouring a Legacy of Brilliance and Humanity

When we consider Lucy Markovic’s incredible life, we see a legacy distinguished not just by great artistic ability but also by great personal connection. She showed that the good influence one leaves on the hearts of people defines achievement more than just honours or celebrity.
