Lachlan Ricchini, a 15-year-old swimmer, took his own life on February 4. His death has saddened the people of Geelong. Those who knew him, particularly those in the Victorian swimming community, are shocked by Lachlan Ricchini death.

A Promising Talent Gone Too Soon

He was a skilled member of the Melbourne Swimming Club and a rising star in the sport. His family has a long history of swimming in Victoria. Cameron is his brother and the manager of the Geelong Swimming Club. Brett is his father and used to be a top triathlete.

Laps for Lachie: A Fundraiser in His Honour

To commemorate Lachlan Ricchini death and raise awareness about youth mental health, a special fundraiser, Laps for Lachie, will take place at Kardinia Aquatic Centre on Sunday from 10:30 AM. The initiative extends the annual Laps for Life event, which supports youth suicide prevention.

Lachlan had previously participated in Laps for Life alongside his brother, making this tribute especially meaningful. So far, the fundraiser has garnered overwhelming community support, raising over $30,000 toward its $40,000 goal.

Community Unites to Prevent Youth Suicide

The initiative has received strong backing from friends, family, and the wider swimming community. Organizers emphasize the importance of coming together to raise awareness and funds for mental health support.

Lachlan Ricchini death is deeply felt across the entire community, especially among swimmers,” said a spokesperson for the event. “He loved the sport, and there’s no better way to honour him than by coming together in the water. This fundraiser is not just about remembering Lachlan but also about making a difference in youth suicide prevention.”

Upcoming Tribute: Barwon Heads Triathlon

Continuing the efforts to remember Lachlan, the upcoming Barwon Heads Triathlon, scheduled for February 23, 2025, will introduce a new family team category in his honor. Lachlan had already competed in the 2023 triathlon team event with his family and done very well. Brett, Lachlan’s father, said that this tribute not only honours Lachlan’s love of sports, but also urges families to get active together and spend time together.

A Splash of Colour to Celebrate Lachlan’s Spirit

To honour how lively Lachlan was, people are being asked to come to the event wearing bright swim caps. This will tell us of how much happiness he brought into the world.

How to Support the Cause

People in the community can help by going to the event, giving money to the cause, or spreading the word about the programmes that help with mental health. Teens who are having mental health issues need to get the help they need, and the fight against teen suicide needs everyone to do something.
