New Details Emerge in the Deaths of Gene Hackman and Wife Betsy Arakawa

The couple and their dead dog were found in their New Mexico home on Wednesday, according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office. Hackman lived to be 95 years old.

Initial autopsy reports confirm that neither Hackman nor Arakawa showed signs of external trauma, though the exact cause of death remains undetermined. According to CNN, Toxicology tests and carbon monoxide screenings have been ordered, and authorities have stated that the investigation is ongoing.
While foul play is not suspected at this time, officials have not entirely ruled it out. According to a recently released affidavit, the circumstances surrounding their deaths are considered suspicious enough to warrant further investigation. A space heater was found near Arakawa’s body, which was located in a bathroom alongside scattered prescription pills and the couple’s deceased dog. Hackman’s body was discovered in a separate room near the kitchen. There were no signs of forced entry, and two other dogs were found alive in other parts of the home.
Authorities have executed a search warrant to look for combustible materials, controlled substances, weapons, DNA, and other potential evidence. The home’s front door was reportedly found open and unsecured when the bodies were discovered by a caretaker.
The final autopsy report, including toxicology results, is expected to take approximately 4-6 weeks.

The entertainment world is mourning the loss of Hackman, a two-time Academy Award winner known for his iconic roles in The French Connection, Unforgiven, The Conversation, and Hoosiers.
