An Adelaide woman is being investigated after bursting into a Year 8 classroom at St Paul’s College in Gilles Plains, sending forth a profanity-laced diatribe and threatening to “slit” the neck of a 12-year-old pupil for allegedly tormenting her daughter. The event, which took place on Monday afternoon, was recorded on video and has since spread globally.
In the video, the enraged mother hits two students, shouting, “You ever f****** mess with my daughter again, I’ll slit your f****** throat.” Her husband tries to manage her and get her out of the classroom.
Parents expressed shock and concern over the incident. Isabella Ragano commented, “You lead by example. I mean, I’m a fiery person but I wouldn’t do that in a classroom with kids.” Clint Haines added, “It’s terrible. Yeah, that’s bad. Shocked actually.”
South Australia Police have launched an investigation and are collaborating closely with the school. As to a police spokeswoman, “Thankfully, the student involved was not physically injured.”
Patrick Harmer, Principal of St Paul’s College, pointed out the school’s commitment to student safety and well-being, adding support to students who witnessed the incident.
This event promotes the South Australian government‘s new law aimed at reducing abusive parental behaviour. To promote a secure learning environment, the new rules allow officials to ban parents from school premises. Premier Malinauskas said: “Educators and the wider community expect schools and preschools to be safe and supportive learning environments where there is no place for violence or intimidating and threatening behaviour.”
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
